On the beaten PATH: More IDEAL Helical Piles In The NY/NJ Subway Stations

The helical piles had to be installed in an existing subway station, so limited access was a significant challenge.

Construction is underway at the Exchange Place and Newport PATH stations in Jersey City. Renovations are being made to the existing infrastructure to keep up with the current subway traffic flow. This work includes the replacement of six elevators and seven escalators between the two locations.

IDEAL Group worked with Skanska to provide a deep foundation solution that helped to make this project a success. Installation equipment and materials needed to be brought into the underground stations through the escalator openings. That was just the first challenge. Once at the subterranean installation location, limited overhead access was still an issue. This is where we broke out the Brokk. Our design team worked with different manufacturers to provide a proprietary install equipment solution to meet the unique requirements of the project.
